The dual interface, PC-linked reader can read and write to a 13.56 MHz contactless smart card. Contactless smart cards supported include many proprietary standards including HID iCLASS, MIFARE (Ultralight, DESFire, SMART-MX and ICODE), NFC Tag Types 1, 2 and 4, TagIT, ST Micro x-ident and Infineon My-d.
The OMNIKEY 5421 Reader has made a name for itself in reliability, based on its proven driver/hardware technology for increased control and security. The host interface is USB 2.0 compliant, and transmission speed is a full 12 Mbps. It boasts a full ID-1 card size, and when it is supported by the card, the interface speed maxes out at 420 Kbps. 8-pin C4/C8 handling is supported, and it has an embedded light emitting diode for troubleshooting.
The OMNIKEY 5421 Reader works with all versions of Windows dating back to 2003, as well as Linux and Mac OS X. It is bus powered, and in terms of durability, the OMNIKEY can last over a hundred thousand insertions without failure. There is a two-year manufacturer's warranty included.
